Sophiya Islam

Associate – Urban Development

Sophiya Islam is an Urban Designer with more than five years of professional and teaching experience. Her work at ITDP primarily focuses on research and development of technical guidance documents and publications for Capacity Building Initiatives and National Challenges. She also supports the team in the scaling-up of work at the national level. With a flair for communications, she loves to contribute towards writing blogs and developing effective methods for sharing knowledge resources.
She believes that people make places, and hopes to contribute towards making more liveable and inclusive places for all. Her recent research has been focused on understanding and improving the quality of life in informal settlements. Through her work at ITDP, she is interested in exploring the role of urban design in public policy.
She spends her leisure time experiencing busy places, capturing the life around, and once in a while also loves to spend a rather quiet evening with a book and a cup of coffee.
